Back Porch Concerts

This is a description of my experience performing at the Back Porch Concert Series in Oakland in July 2007.
Bear with me as I am relatively brand new to the world of blogging. I think it is worthwhile for me to begin at this point as a singer songwriter being given some unique opportunities. My hope is that folks are interested in my perspective from each one of these opportunities. Based on that assumption here we go...

I'll start with my experience performing at the Back Porch concert series here in Oakland. The show was July 22nd. My hosts Gabriel, Dvora, Jan and Mic were so clear and gracious. It was a pleasure. I knew Gabriel previously and he had seen me in two previous shows at Spuds Pizza in Berkeley as well as at another Home Concert at the home of Bruce Blouin in October of 2006. Naturally I felt honored to get such a strong recommendation from Gabriel. Before I take the focus off of him, I will reveal a little known fact that Gabriel was brave enough to allow me to "noodle" on my guitar during a meditation prayer event - which served as a great experiment and and interesting experience for those who joined us that evening.

I met Andre dos Santos Morgan at the first concert in the Back Porch series. A very friendly guy with a very friendly band. He put me at ease and I have to emphasize that he really went out of his way to be approachable. His voice and keyboard playing are a powerhouse and I was so impressed and thrilled to have shared a stage in that context. It made that day all the more special. One example of Andre's stage - side manner, he wanted to be sure to include me in one of his songs in his set and set me up to play guitar with him and his band on "Blue Moon". He also wanted to include next month's performer Lisa Cohen. All of this inspired me to return the favor, when I asked Andre and Lisa to back me up on my song "Find Me A Lover". They took my suggestion and quickly came up with backing parts and it was really great to incorporate the community of musicians during the performance that way.

Now, if you were there that day, don't worry, I will mention the butterflies..., but before I do.

THE SUN - Wow the sun was beating down on me. Of course the plan was to be shaded by the canopy, and that's how we set up. But by the time the performance started I was under direct sunlight. So for me the memory will be singing while baking and sweating buckets!

THE BUTTERFLIES... The back yard of course was a wonderful garden and the butterflies were out. There must have been at least 5 or 6 of them. As I sang they seemed to dance in front of me and above in the air. It was a beautiful day and I was so honored to have that opportunity to perform!
