Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night. This time with a funny thought — I thought Camelot would be a funny name for a camel! That inspired a poem and then a song!

CAMEL NAMED CAMELOT

I had a funny thought
Have you ever known a camel named Camelot?
I wrote this down before I forgot
imagining an elaborate plot

He could have been an ant on a flower
A fly for an hour
And a tree for 200 years
He could have been a star

He loved a coffee shop
For the carrot cake and espresso shot
April the giraffe prefers her tea pot
she ate the leaves
And his jaw just dropped

He was an ant on a flower
A fly for an hour
And a tree for 200 years
He could have been a star

He’s a verbalized pause
at a silent retreat
He’s that Hold for applause
when both our eyes meet
He Goes without saying
it bears to repeat
Because he walks around
with two toes on each feet

Through the eye of a needle
He’ll spit in your eye
If accused of a crime
he’s got no alibi
April the giraffe
will testify
Who would question a giraffe
With a tear in her eye?

He could have been an ant on a flower
A fly for an hour
And a tree for 200 years
He could have been a star
